A shocking case from Kolhapur has brought fresh concern over online grooming and blackmail, just days after a similar disturbing incident was reported from Amravati in Maharashtra. In Kolhapur, a 22-year-old pharmacy student has been arrested for allegedly trapping young women, sexually abusing them, recording objectionable videos, and later using those clips to threaten and control them.
Police have taken Shahid Sameer Sanadi, a resident of Hatkanangle taluka in Kolhapur district, into custody. A local court has sent him to four days of police custody as the investigation deepens.

The case came into the open after a close friend of the accused learned about the alleged activities and shared the information, which eventually led to a formal complaint.
Social media friendship that turned into alleged exploitation
According to police details from the complaint filed on April 26, the accused first came in contact with a 20-year-old woman through social media. He gradually built trust and later took her to lodges in Kolhapur and Shiroli.
There, he allegedly sexually assaulted her and secretly recorded obscene videos without her consent. These videos were not only kept by him but were also reportedly shared with his friends.
The victim has stated in her complaint that the accused used these recordings as a weapon. He allegedly warned her that if she spoke to anyone or tried to resist, the videos would be made public. This fear, according to police, led to repeated mental pressure and continued exploitation.
Allegations of multiple victims and police verification underway
After the case became public, several local organisations raised serious concerns. Groups including Shiv Pratishthan Hindustan and Bajrang Dal claimed that the accused may have targeted around 10 young women in a similar pattern. These women are believed to be mostly between 18 and 22 years of age.
They have alleged that the accused used a similar method of befriending, trapping, and later blackmailing victims with obscene recordings. However, police officials have clarified that these numbers are still under verification and no final confirmation has been made about multiple victims.
Authorities are actively examining whether more women from areas like Shiroli, Hupari, and Hatkanangle may also be involved or affected.
Appeal for victims and comparison with Amravati case
Police have made a public appeal urging other possible victims to come forward and report their experiences. Officials have assured that the identity of complainants will be kept strictly confidential to encourage reporting without fear.
This case has drawn attention because it comes shortly after another major incident in Amravati.
In that case, a man named Mohammad Ayaz, also known as Tanveer, was arrested for allegedly sexually exploiting at least 180 minor girls. Reports say he recorded more than 350 obscene videos. Then he used social media platforms like WhatsApp and Snapchat to contact victims.
